  • Lampwork Beads & Marbles
What is "lampworking"?  Also called "flameworking".  This is the ancient art of working with molten glass to make beads and small sculpture.  The term "lampwork" originated in the 1600's in France and Italy because the artisans used oil lamps as a heat source to bring the glass to a molten state and then manipulate it.  Today, of course, we use pretty sophisticated torches, and they are fueled by a mixture of oxygen and propane.

It's incredibly challenging not only because of the miniature size of your work, but because the soft glass demands an intense focus and constant motion to control the glass and build your design.

Ultimately, of course, I'm not making beads just to have a bead-curtain in my studio -- but I am using them as original handmade decorative elements in jewelry and even in some cottage couture pieces -- like in wind chimes and even on lighting fixtures.

More to come on this (I have about a hundred gorgeous, handcrafted pieces, just need to photograph)-- for now, just a couple quick snap shots to give you an idea....
